The Pier

I recently worked in LA, helping my buddy RHODE with his project, brain-storming together in an intense schedule that did not leave time for much other than work. But on my last weekend in LA, Julia came to town, and we managed to squeeze in a day of sketching on the beach. While everyone else was wearing swimsuits, we were [READ MORE…]

Capay Valley

Last weekend, Julia and I went up to the CAPAY VALLEY, a picturesque farming area about 2 hours drive from San Francisco, to attend an OUTSTANDING IN THE FIELD farm-dinner. The trip made a good excuse for a weekend of drawing. Our posh dinner was set for Sunday so we planned to devote all of Saturday to exploring and sketching. [READ MORE…]

France Sketches

Last Weekend, Julia and I returned from a fantastic 2-week visit to France. Our first few days in Paris were a blur of activity; sight-seeing, visiting the Musée d’Orsay, and meeting with my old friends from when I worked at Disney Paris (in 1990). Then we got on one of those fancy TGV trains, and spent the next few days down [READ MORE…]

Dr Sketchy's

Last night, Julia and I attended a life-drawing sketch session at San Francisco’s branch of the famous Dr Sketchy’s anti-ArtSchool, held at the 111 Minna Gallery. It was a lot of fun. My understanding is that the models are always dressed and posed to a theme and this time it was “burlesque clowns”. Three 20 minute poses and one 40 [READ MORE…]

Mendocino Towers

The northern California town of Mendocino has some very distinctive and quirky architecture. One prominent feature is the towers looming all over town. At first, I thought they were observation towers or merely a quirk of a long-ago architect, neither of which explained the sheer number of them. It took me a while to realise that they were in fact [READ MORE…]

Mendocino Sketch-trip

Last weekend, Julia and I went up to the North coast on a sketching trip. I’ll have some more pics to post later but to begin with, here is a beaten down old truck we stumbled on towards the outskirts of the lovely little town of Mendocino. The weather was beautiful & sunny, and despite occasional gusts of strong coastal [READ MORE…]

Sketchcrawl #30

Last weekend I attended my very first SKETCHCRAWL here in San Francisco and had a wonderful time out and about sketching and socialising with friends. Over the past year or so, I have been trying very hard to re-acquire the habit of going out and sketching in the real world. I used to do this often, once upon a time, [READ MORE…]

Sephilina BOOK plans

Lately, I have had my head down; jamming on a 40 page book for Comic Con next month, hopefully (time permitting) my first self-published book in FULL COLOUR. As a starting point, I have expanded and re-formatted an old ten page SEPHILINA story that I did for the BABES IN SPACE anthology (put together by Benton Jew & Ed Reynolds) [READ MORE…]
