2002 wasn’t such a great year for me in either my personal or my creative lives. The bitter end of a long relationship cast a cloud over everything, and I did not achieve as much on my own projects as I had wanted.

I did, however manage to learn HTML and a bit of Javascript, and take over the coding of my website, rather than rely on the efforts of friends.

my latest favourite site to visit shows the work of the comics (and animation) artist Claire Wendling. If you take the time to go through her entire site you will definately be inspired. Or perhaps you will get depressed instead. We joke that she is one of those special artists who is DESPIRING which is when their artwork depresses you (because YOU suck) and inspires you (when you see what’s possible) at the same time..Once you’ve tried to wrap your mind around the incredible range of work on her site, check out this other link for 3 more pages. Is there anything that she can’t do? sheesh!

Finally there is new stuff in the animation section. I’ve been meaning to add more to that category for two years but didn’t have the smarts to digitize the animation until Tom Rubalcava and Steward Lee helped me out.

I learned from checking my webcounter that 5 visitors were led to my site by the Search Hippo search-engine after entering this search query . Definately five very frustrated customers. Sorry to disapoint you lads! Well I guess one out of the three search terms isn’t too bad… anyway, looks like you need to switch to Google.

The STORE now has some merchandise in there courtesy of Cafe press

There is some new stuff in the sketches section, so check that out.

Also I have the cover from my second comic book up in the comics section, and plan to get some samples of the pages up as soon as I can, so check back later for that.

We are trying out a new message board at the studio, so go to www.maverixstudios.com give it a try, and post some of your own art on there if you like.

The site has been left to it’s own devices for the past few months as I was wailing away at my comic-book. In the next few weeks I plan to update it with new artwork from the book, and some other stuff as well…

I’ve been battling away at my book. First had to fight my own sloth, and then had to deal with getting the book printed. That was an extremely unpleasant chore this year.
on the plus side, I now have two issues of NERVE BOMB comics under my belt. there is a new ROCKET RABBIT story, and also a few pages of SQUID GIRL material. As soon as is possible I will get examples of both up on the site.

I have plans to get some t-shirts and other cool stuff made and set up a mini-mall here on the site, so keep yer eyes peeled and yer wallets poised..

I just returned from San Diego where Maverix Studios members held down a table, and tried to sell our books at the Comic-Con. Here is a sketch I did for Dave Morris’ dancing girls gallery:

This year ALL the members of Maverix studios made stuff to sell and we all had some hassles with the printing process this year (to say the least). There was a lot of late nights, file corruption, frantic trips to Kinkos and high blood pressure all round… but we prevailed in the end, and each of us achieved what we set out to do; get a book ready for the convention. So that amounts to quite a success.

Our neighbours Enrico Casarossa and Ronnie del Carmen took it to the next level of success, and sold out of all their stock of books! This on their first outing as exhibitors. Very impressive. Speaking of Ronnie, he has an OFFICIAL website of his own now, and I have updated the URL in the links section so be sure to visit him at www.ronniedelcarmen.com.

Well, I’ve been fiddling about on this site since I registered the domain name in september 2001, and it is finally starting to take shape.

There isn’t much news to report this early in the game, but one exiting development is that my old Pal Chris Hauge, who has his own studio in Sydney called HALO PICTURES, is currently modelling ROCKET RABBIT in CG. The goal is to do an animated test of about 30 seconds or so. I’ve been working up some model sheets for that project and still have to put the finishing touches on a storyboard. So obviously that is pretty exciting. Her is their model of THE BLUDGEONATOR!

A character who had a bit part in the Premiere Rocket Rabbit story last year, is going to be the star of the next comic story that I do. Her name is SQUID GIRL, and you can see some sketches of here about the place if you look hard enough. I will start pencilling a story for her next week, and will hopefully have some stuff in print in time for the Comic Con in August.

I’m back at Maverix and working on comics. A character named SQUID GIRL who appeared in the Rocket Rabbit story in Nerve Bomb Comics last year is the star of the yarn I’m working on at the moment. You can see some pics of her in the Projects section. Her story will be my contribution to Benton Jew’s “Babes in Space” anthology. In addition, I will be working on some more stories with Rocket Rabbit and the Professor, and those will go into the next issue of Nerve Bomb which will be on sale at Comic-Con.
