Happy Halloween

Vampire Clown says:
“Party safe!”

I don’t have any new Halloween themed artwork, but even if I did, how could I possibly top this CUTE LITTLE WITCH by RHODE MONTIJO? I am already lobbying hard to get her a TV show of her own…

(I’m just sayin’…)

If you like that cute ‘n’ creepy FLAVA then get on over to both of his websites; www.PablosInferno.com and www.RhodeMontijo.com for some extra helpings of pumpkin pie.

The INCREDIBLES

On Saturday night I was lucky enough to attend the wrap party for the latest film from Pixar, Brad Bird’s THE INCREDIBLES. It was a lot of fun seeing all the (usually extremely casually dressed) Pixar folk dressed up in fancy clothes and having a good time.

I have been eagerly looking forward to seeing this movie ever since I saw the designs around 4 years ago (while at Pixar working on Finding Nemo). I am happy to say that even though my expectations have steadilly being rising over the past few years, The Incredibles didn’t disappoint on any level. The production design, character design, animation, and story are all fantastic. I haven’t enjoyed a movie so much in ages. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it breaks records at the box office.

However, like all movie-nerds I make it a point of pride that I can’t ever give an unconditional thumbs up. There always has to be a quibble somewhere, and as good as it is, that is still definately the case with The Incredibles. There is only one thing that bothered me about this movie, and that is that I didn’t get a chance to work on it myself…

ROBOT animated shorts

A while ago, my good pals at HALO pictures in Sydney were making some CG models of ROCKET RABBIT and the BLUDGEONATOR, with a view to making an animated short. That’s the cg model built by HALO to the left. You can view the storyboard here

It was going to be a lot of work, and if it happened at all I wanted to be really involved, which wasn’t possible at the time. So in the end I put off the project so as to concentrate on making comics.

Lately I’ve seen some animation shorts on the web, that feature cool robots. I have to admit they are inspiring me to revisit the idea of doing something similar with ROCKET RABBIT.

The first short is called ROBOT REPUBLIC and is brilliantly animated in flash by SQUARE I studio in Melbourne. It’s really funny and features lots of rampaging robots.

If you like Robot Republic then check out the other excellent shorts also done for the Australian Broadcastion Corporation at their STRANGE ATTRACTORS website.

Another Robot themed short is done in CG by House Of Secrets, Maniacs Of Noise and Soulbase in Holland. The title of the short is Geweldenaren Van Ver. It is very brief, only about 10 seconds, but is really worth checking out. It was produced in a very brief period of time; a matter of weeks.

There really is something very appealing about the image of giant retro looking robots going beserk…
